Midpoint Reflection Questions

1) How has the internship been the same as and/or different than your expectations?

- I thought that my internship will be more challenge and is it not. But some times my work is very hard. I make many mistakes and to be Accountant, you cannot make any mistake because can change everything. Also I thought that I will be more confident with my mentor, but I'm very serious with my work, and she is the same. But I have a good relationship of friends with my co-worker "Karry". She is nice! I'm not expected go to the banks almost everyday and also I'm not expected to do some serious work like a real Accountant do. Some times I feel like a professional because she give me some kind challenge work and I did it right. Sometime I can't believe myself. But some times when I made mistakes I feel weak and like I can't do anything, but I hope to overcome this situation. I not expected to get so tired sometimes and come to my home too late. I knew that this internship will be so quiet and boring. In the interview I felt it.

2) What is similar and different about the culture of the school environment versus the workplace environment? What new skills have you learned that apply to the workplace?

- There are too many differences. In the school is very noise, too many people from different part of the world. I talk too much with my friends, I share with them my feelings (sadness, happiness, etc...). The teachers teach me different classes (English,History,Math & Biology). And in my internshit site is very quiet, only there work 4 people including me, even we are not together at the same times. There I don't talk too much. Also there she teaching me NUMBERS, ACCOUNTS, CHECKS, EMAILS, etc...

3) What kind of relationship do you have with your mentor and co-workers? How have you grown as a result of interacting with professional adults?

- Well the relationship with my mentor is not too close and with my co-worker either. I mean that she only explain me what I have to do, we not talk anything personal or about school. But my co-worker "Karry", she is nice! I talk more with her, but she is with me only the Monday. And the rest of the days I'm with Melinda & Linda.
- My relation with professinal people make myself grow up in the language. I learned more new words and I learned couple things about an Accountant and some business. Really share with professional people make you grow your skills and knowledge and give you the opportunities to not be shy when you have to talk with unknown people. Working with adults make you mature and see the things from another point of view. Also your vocabulary refer to professional people is appropriate, you learned it from them, how they talking.

4) What challenges at the internship have you faced that you have overcome and how did you overcome them?

- One of the things that cost to me too much to understant was prepare the checks from different clients from different form to do each client and each kind of bills. Tha's was really challenge for me, because always when I thought I did right, there was some mistakes. I felt very disappointment of myself. I thought I never could overcome this problem, but thanks to myself, I pay attetion very carefully what my mentor or my co-worker what she saying to me, also Linda give me a guide to make the email checks easier for me. Also she said me when I have a questions or any doubt that ask to her, but in some case I didn't ask her and I did how I know and then was wrong way, another mistake. Linda said me couple times that when I have a question ask to her for make sure my work. I thought this was impossible, but I overcome this obstacle.

5) What challenges have you faced in school as a result of the altered schedule and how are you handling them?

- Tired. It's difficult do too many things at the same time. I know this is part to mature, but we still a teenager. The only day a can take a break is Sunday. Is very hard to wake up very early to take College Now three days at week (Monday, Tuesday & Thursday) and then take SAT prep two days at week. That's mean that I have to wake up the whole week at the same times. Take the normal classes until 11:30 am, then almost I have to run, I mean walk fast to buy some food and then take the L train and A train until 34 st penn station. When I getting in my internship at 12:40 or 12:50 pm, work, work, work, a break of 5 minutes maybe, work, work, until 5:00pm or some times until 5:10 pm. I arrive to my home at 6:00 pm, very tired. Then of course when I come to my home I'm hungry, so I eat some food until the food that I have to cook when I arrive is ready to eat. And then I watch TV 1 or 2 hours and then I do my homework. When I have too many homework I go to sleep very late for wake up early. That's why I'm tired. I'm very tired.

6) What goals are you working to accomplish during the remainder of the internship?

- My goals is done very nice my internship and learn a beautiful experiences in my site. Also is take myself and think about an Accountant for know and be convince that this is my career, this is I would want to study in college. I have to be clear about that for in the future not repent of study Accontant because this would be Horrible in my life, do something that I don't like to do or start to study in college and in the half of my career change to another career. That's will be take long time for graduate me. For that is the internship a great opportunities for you have clear what you want to study. Internship is a great experience for us even now we see it horrible or tired.

7) What new things have you learned about New York City?

- wow there is a lot things. If I start to say, I don't think that I could finish today. Basically in the school I learned a lot things. Like for example: in classes I learned different things (English, History, Math, Biology, Music & Art). Also the Regents & SAT tests. I get used to this lifestyle, New York lifestyle. There everything is like fast, I mean that the lifestyle to which you become accustomed this is different, like for example, when you working and are you late and you have to take the train, you see everybody running for take the trains. The life here is a little bit crazy. Also the internship is new thing that I'm learning in my life. I wish that I could learn more new things, but good things, I wouldn't like learn bad things. I stress again that this country is just to make enough money and your return to your country with your life insured for the rest of it.
